About Our Church

Who We Are

Holding HandsThe members and friends of First Lutheran Church ELCA welcome all persons, regardless of ethnic heritage, religious backgrounds, etc.

The author of Ephesians writes, "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God – not the result of works, so that no one may boast" (Eph. 2:8-9). That's the good news we receive and share at First Lutheran Church! In Christ Jesus, the crucified and risen one, we receive the radical grace (undeserved love) of God that brings life and salvation. In no uncertain terms God declares that you and I are God's own people!

Ephesians continues: "For we are what he has made us, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand to be our way of life" (Eph. 2:10). In naming us as God's children, God also transforms us into ones equipped with loving hearts, hands, and voices. We have new purpose, joining God in sharing with and caring for others. It is said of the church that we are a life-saving community, sailing out on the often chaotic sea of this world, offering God's own loving care to those at sea with us.

The Holy Spirit is blowing us on a journey of adventure in mission. Together we are sailing in those blessed winds that we might always be first for God, inviting others to a relationship of faith, receiving together our Lord's free gift of grace, and serving our Congregation, our Community, and our World with the love of Jesus Christ. To God be the glory!
